At 9:00 AM, you will disembark from your cruise ship at Kitakyushu Port. Your private vehicle will be waiting at the port to transfer you to Kokura Castle.
9:30 AM – 11:00 AM | Visit Kokura Castle — A City of Human History
Upon arrival at Kokura Castle at 9:30 AM, you will have 1.5 hours to immerse yourself in this historic castle, originally reconstructed in the 17th century. Inside the main keep, exhibitions introduce the history of Kokura and its feudal lords, including the legendary duel between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro. You may also stroll through the castle gardens and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
11:00 AM – 11:15 AM | Transfer to Tanga Market
Depart Kokura Castle at 11:00 AM and drive to Tanga Market.
11:15 AM – 12:45 PM | Experience Tanga Market — The Kitchen of Kitakyushu
Arrive at Tanga Market at 11:15 AM and experience the vibrant atmosphere of this century-old indoor market, known as the “Kitchen of Kitakyushu.” Narrow aisles are lined with stalls selling fresh seafood, local produce, traditional Japanese snacks, and prepared foods.
You can try the famous “Daigaku-don” experience — purchase a bowl of rice from a designated shop, then select sashimi, tempura, and other toppings from different stalls to create your own custom seafood rice bowl. You may also wish to sample local specialties such as Nukadaki (small fish simmered in rice-bran paste).
12:45 PM – 1:15 PM | Transfer to Mojiko Retro District
Depart Tanga Market at 12:45 PM and head to the Mojiko Retro District.
1:15 PM – 2:30 PM | Stroll Through Mojiko Retro District
Arrive at Mojiko Retro District at 1:15 PM and explore this beautifully preserved historic port area. The district features many Western-style buildings from the Meiji and Taisho eras (late 19th to early 20th century), including Mojiko Station and the Former Mitsui Club.
Enjoy views of the Kanmon Strait and the Kanmon Bridge, which connects Kyushu and Honshu. If time permits, you may visit the Mojiko Observation Room for a panoramic view of the harbor and strait.
2:30 PM – 3:00 PM | Return to Kitakyushu Port
At 2:30 PM, your private vehicle will transfer you back to Kitakyushu Port, ensuring you have ample time to reboard your cruise before departure.
